Brooklyn was born on February 14th, 2014 at 24 weeks.
We were in California at the time; my dad passed away on February 10th. The morning of the 14th, I woke up having strange, mild pains but didn't think much of it. After a few hours, the pain intensified so we went to the hospital. On the ride there, I realized I was in labor.
After being admitted in the ER, the doctors found that I had a placental abruption (the placenta separated from the uterus causing major bleeding) and got me in for an emergency c-section.
When I woke up, my husband told me that our little girl didn't make it. The doctors tried to resuscitate her for 45 minutes, but it was in vain. She was just too premature.
Weeks after losing Brooklyn, the doctor who delivered her in California called to tell me they got her test results back, and she had a rare form of Down Syndrome.
My husband and I both got tested to find out if we were carriers. It turned out that I have a balanced translocation, which I passed onto Brooklyn. Her chromosomes were unbalanced, which ultimately was what caused her death.
We miss our sweet girl everyday. We never expected a curveball like this to be thrown our way, and we're still learning to cope. Our biggest comfort is the knowledge that we will be with Brooklyn again one day and will get to raise her then.
I have not seen pictures of her! She's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kylie! It's the first time I've shared that one of her.
